Food Pantry Consumers: The Need

Olivia* appears a typical child – like a neighbor’s daughters or a grandchild maybe. But there are differences you can’t see. Olivia goes to bed hungry most nights. Soon, she may have no place to call home. Olivia’s mom is going to school and working part-time. The family barely makes ends meet. The starter on the car went out last month. The rent payment is two weeks past due. If rent isn’t paid in the next three days, Olivia and her mother will be evicted. Like more than 10,000 other families this year, they will seek and receive emergency assistance from the Des Moines Area Religious Council.
