Have you ever felt like you were looking for a piece of a jigsaw puzzle when you were trying to find food for your next meal or for your family? You are not alone.
While there are a number of resources and organizations in the Des Moines area that help provide food assistance, not all assistance programs are available all the time, or for all families, or even for all members of a household.
- Some programs are available based on strict income guidelines
- Some are limited by how often they can be accessed
- Some are limited to families with young children
- Some are available only to those over age 59
Hungry people seek help because they don’t know about available food resources or are confused by the rules of the assistance programs and feel unable to find food for themselves or their families. They come looking for help and direction, as much as for food.
The Greater Des Moines Food Assistance Resources booklet is a brief guide to helping people in need find both emergency food resources and assistance programs that can help them provide food for themselves and their families on an ongoing basis. (Click here for a Printable Version Booklet.)
